Our Core Roofing Services

Slating and Tiling


Bain and Irvine are qualified to fit all types of slating and tiling. Two of our slaters are qualified to CSCS Gold Card standard which allows both employees to work on pre 1919 buildings within the Heritage sector. Our Managing Director Graeme Millar has achieved Roof master status within the Heritage roofing category giving him design and construction qualifications which are recognised by the main conservation bodies throughout the UK, including Historic Scotland.

Cupolas, Rooflights and Velux Conservation Windows


Bain and Irvine have vast experience in the fitting of all the above glazing units. Double glazing for cupolas, expert fitting of velux windows(approved contractor) conservation windows fitted and advice given on all varieties of glazing.

Flat Roofs


Bain and Irvine are approved ICOPAL installer of flat roofing products, including built up felt work and modern single ply alternatives. Insulation advice given on all flat roof areas, all to bring your flat roof sections up to current building regulations. Sheet metals, including lead are also fitted to your flat roof areas all to comply with A listed requirements. Guarantees on flat roof areas range from 15 - 25 years dependant on your choice of material.

Roofing Maintenance


Prevent the large bill with efficient and effective maintenance checks on your roof We advise that all roofs should be monitored on a yearly basis as something as simple as a blocked gutter or downpipe can cause significant internal damage. Bain and Irvine's annual maintenance database alerts our customers to their next roof check.

Heritage and Conservation

Bain and Irvine have consistently advocated the conservation of pre 1919 buildings. Victorian Scotland was a hive of construction and it is vital that you employ a contractor who is qualified in this sector. The NRFC Heritage list of roofing types includes plain tiling and random slating both of which are areas where Bain and Irvine's employees are highly qualified. We also pride ourselves in developing the skills of our three young apprentices who are presently working through this system.

Bain and Irvine Ltd is the first roofing company in Scotland to be awarded the prestigious Roofmaster Certificate of Excellence in the Heritage Roofing category. The inclusion of two of our employees as Craft roofers in Random slating is also a feather in Bain and Irvine's cap and congratulations are due to Martin Redington and David Tait for the outstanding quality of their workmanship over many years with this company.

Graeme Millar is a 5th generation roofing contractor with this Great Great Grandfather working as a slater on the prestigious Fettes College school during its construction in the 1860s.

NFRC Award

Bain and Irvine were awarded a Scottish Roofing Contractor of the Year award 2009. Norma Millar received the award from Mr Alex Neil MSP Minister for Housing and Communities.

This was awarded for excellence in the Slating and Tiling category further confirming Bain and Irvine's commitment to quality workmanship.

Ongoing Training

CITB

As a company we have historically provided excellent apprentices in the roofing market place many of whom remain with us today.

Training is an extremely important part to the development of new tradesmen and so we are committed to the CITB training schemes and we currently have two apprentices at college.
